Airtel Launch VoLTE Service In India This Year
The latest buzz in the gadget world by the leading telecom operators in India, is the launch of Airtel VoLTE (Voice over LTE), though it is a trail right now but everyone is super excited for its launch.
Airtel VoLTE basically stands for Voice over Long Term Evolution, which essentially voice over internet protocol or IP-based LTE network. It allows to make voice calls over LTE. It enables High Definition (HD) voice calling which will allow significant improvement over traditional calls. LTE is capable of reaching a speed of 100-150 megabits per second while moving and 1 GB per second when stationary.
The launch is said to be in the upcoming end months of this year. This was announced by the Managing Director and CRO (India and South Asia), Gopal Vittal in a press conference on Monday in New Delhi. By launching this Airtel will become the second operator in India to provide Airtel VoLTE services after Reliance Jio;
which launched this service in the month of September the previous year. Vital told in the conference that, “”We are in the midst of trials. We are already doing trials in five cities. Towards the latter part of the year we should be able to launch it.” He also assured that 4G Airtel VoLTE will allow the users to use both voice and data without switching between the bands.
In the conference, Airtel also launched its Data Roll Over Promise which was basically focusing on giving its postpaid subscribers the ability to carry forward the unused data from the current billing cycle to the next billing, which is in itself a great news for the users.

This will ensure zero data wastage and is likely to bring unmatched value to the Airtel Postpaid proposition as told by the CEO. The costumers can carry forward up to 200 GB of data and they will be able to keep track of their data. In addition to this they also announced improvements in their app and website.
It was told by Airtel that the trail launch will be in five cities, “We already have voice service. Customers don’t care for call technology. We are clear that our Airtel VoLTE is in works, and trials are on in 5 cities. Towards the end of the year, we should be able to launch it. It is predicted that Mumbai and Delhi are said to be among the trail cities.

Some mobile handsets have started receiving carrier update which support for VoLTE technology. Apple India supports Airtel VoLTE in India for iPhone 6 and above models including Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. It is said that Gionee P7 is the model who has passed all the required tests. According to some sources smartphones like Motorola, Xiaomi, Lenovo, Asus, Oppo and Samsung are compatible with this service.
This will be beneficial in terms of both cost and operation. It will be providing a much more efficient use of spectrum than the traditional voice. It will provide more reliable services. Airtel VoLTE can be deployed in parallel with video calls over LTE and RCS multimedia services, including media share, multimedia messaging, chat and file transfer; thus providing a better service and making services better and reliable. It will also enable Airtel VoLTE to give competition from Over The Top (OTT) players including WhatsApp, Skype, Viber and Facebook Messenger. Also, the messaging and voice call services will also be at much lower rates.
